Bridging The Gap in African Cancer Survivorship Care

Across Africa, the number of people living with and beyond cancer is rapidly increasing. While progress has been made in expanding oncology services, survivorship care—including rehabilitation—remains largely underdeveloped and poorly integrated into existing health systems.

Cancer survivors often face physical impairments, fatigue, psychological distress, and social and economic challenges. Despite these needs, rehabilitation services are rarely integrated into cancer care pathways. Read more

ANRCSR brings together researchers, clinicians, rehabilitation professionals, and policymakers to generate the evidence needed to transform this reality.

Vision

A future where every cancer survivor in Africa has access to comprehensive rehabilitation and survivorship care.

Mission

Advance research, policy, and implementation of cancer rehabilitation through interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge translation.

Our Focus Areas

Cancer Rehabilitation

Physical rehabilitation, functional recovery, lymphedema management, and exercise interventions for survivors.

Cancer Survivorship

Long-term outcomes, quality of life, psychosocial wellbeing, and social reintegration research.

Implementation Science

Integration of rehabilitation into oncology services, community-based models, and workforce development.

Digital Health

Tele-rehabilitation, remote monitoring technologies, and digital health solutions for survivorship care.

Health Systems & Policy

Workforce development, national rehabilitation strategies, and integration into cancer control programs.

Cancer Care Giving

Cancer caregiving is a critical yet often under-recognized component of cancer care, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
